Swami Kriyananda (May 1926-April 21, 2013) was born Donald Walters in Azuga, Romania. A direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda, Kriyananda founded Ananda Village and Ananda Worldwide. Ananda Worldwide is a global movement dedicated to sharing Yogananda’s teachings and to establishing the spiritual, brotherhood communities that Yogananda envisioned spreading the spirit of simple living and high thinking in friendship, service, and community around the world. Ananda Village is recognized as one of, if not the most, successful intentional communities in the world.

Kriyananda authored 150 publications and composed more than 400 pieces of music. His books are sold in 90 countries and published in 30 languages. In 2009, Kriyananda established the Nayaswami Order a new expression of the renunciate swami order for the age of higher consciousness.
