Crystal Hermitage is the spiritual heart of Ananda Village and the home of Swami Kriyananda, Ananda’s founder. Beautiful terraced gardens, expansive vistas, and peace of mind await all those who visit Crystal Hermitage. Find solitude in our lovely Chapel that was inspired by the Porziuncola of Saint Francis or in Shrine of the Masters, which houses relics of our gurus and other great saints of Self-realization. Shop in our uplifting gift shop for friends or yourself. Or just enjoy some time in the Garden.
The Hermitage offers venues for weddings, receptions, workshops, and community events. Once a year we have a Spring Open House to share the 7000 tulips with guests from the surrounding area.
Our Guest House, just steps away, provides a relaxing atmosphere to rejuvenate and inspire your spirit. The two-bedroom house overlooks the Yuba River Canyon and is surrounded by trees. It is a perfect getaway for vacation or retreat.
Get on Interstate 80 east toward Reno. Follow Interstate 80 until you come to Auburn. Auburn is a few miles after Loomis. There you will take Hwy 49 to Grass Valley and Nevada City. Hwy 49 will go through Auburn, past Grass Valley, past Nevada City. After the exit Gold Flat/Ridge Rd in Nevada City you will come to a sign that says Hwy 49 to Downieville, make a left towards Downieville. Follow Hwy 49 down to the river and back up the other side of the river. Continue on until you pass Milhous Ranch sign. Then look for a sign for Tyler Foote Rd, make right. Follow Tyler Foote Road for about 5 miles. You will pass a market on the left about 4 miles in called Mother Truckers. You will pass a barn on the left, then the next left you come to, you will see a sign that says “Ananda.”

When you enter Ananda, stay to your right, you will come to a “T.” Make a left. Go up to the next right, Ayodhya Way, make a right. Follow over two speed bumps, past School Circle, past Almora Way, up and down a hill till you cross Sages Road, which is a dirt road. You’ll see a parking area straight ahead, stay to the right of that. A short distance ahead you will see another parking area. Park there and follow the trail that leads down to Hermitage Gardens, Chapel, Shrine and Gift Shop.
Do not use MapQuest, Google Maps, or GPS! It will not get you here!
The trail down from the parking lot, although short, is dirt and you may want to wear flat shoes. If you are handicapped or have someone with you who is handicapped, please call (530) 478-7587 to make arrangements.
