Sequence of techniques?

Sandy Hale
USA

Question

I currently practice energization exercises and then meditate. I plan to begin doing asanas as well. What is the recommended order for these three activities? Asanas, energization exercises, then meditation? Or exercises, asanas, meditation? Thank you.

Answer

Dear Sandy,

The usual recommended order is to do the engerization exercises, asanas, then meditation. This is the sequence we follow at our Expanding Light Retreat at Ananda Village.

You may find in time that once you’ve established a strong daily practice with the above sequence you may feel to change the order. For instance, some long-time meditators find that in the mornings they are more inclined to meditate first and then energize and do asanas afterwards. This is the personal balance of the “art” and “science” of Raja Yoga!

In divine friendship,

Pranaba
