What does this inner sound mean?

Question

Hello,

When meditating, using the Hong-sau technique, and I am getting 'deep' in my left ear area, I hear something that sound like wind blowing against a microphone. I’m not sure what this means or what to make of it.

Please tell me you thoughts or experience.

Thank you.

Answer

Dear Craig,

Glad to hear you are practicing Hong-Sau. I am not sure exactly what you mean by "getting deep in my left ear area," but I'll do my best to answer your question anyway.

In meditation, whether you are practicing a specific technique or not, it often happens that you hear inner sounds. These are the sounds of the chakras, and each chakra emits a slightly different sound.

The fifth chakra (at the throat) sounds a bit like wind blowing, so my best guess would be that this is what you are hearing. This is a good sign — a sign that your inner energy is awakening this chakra.

In the path of Kriya Yoga, we eventually learn and practice the AUM Technique, which teaches us to hear and commune with these deep inner sounds of the chakras, including the great AUM sound — like a roaring ocean.

I would encourage you to continue with your practice of Hong-Sau. When, after six months or so and if you feel you want to become a disciple of this path, then let us know and we can help you to receive specific instructions in the AUM Technique, from the path of Kriya Yoga, as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda.
