Answer

Discipleship to a God-Realized Guru such as Paramhansa Yogananda is perhaps the most significant step one can take on the path to liberation.

If one reads Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi from the perspective of the Guru/Disciple relationship, then it takes on a completely different meaning. In fact, the first sentence of the book, and the last sentence of the book both address that relationship (look it up!).

One of the most powerful episodes in the book, Yogananda's "An Experience in Cosmic Consciousness" (Chapter 14), came about through the intercession of his Guru.

Ananda offers lessons and classes on the Guru/Disciple relationship, along with a discipleship initiation ceremony that one can even do at home. You can go to your nearest Ananda Center to learn more, or study our lessons on discipleship, which include the discipleship ceremony.
