Do I Need to Hurry Up and Learn Kriya Yoga?

Question

I have been attending satsangs for around 3 years.I feel spiritually high though I am not very regular in meditations due to my daily schedule. But I try to keep up with my daily prayers and do good work like charity, being honest, truthful etc as much as possible. Is it still necessary for me to take kriya right now. From my end,I feel I am not prepared as I have many things to clarify, and many personal things to sort out. Maybe in another two three years. Is there a need to hurry?

Answer

Dear Friend,

In one extreme view, you have countless lifetimes to wait for kriya. From another view, less extreme in my view, it is THIS lifetime that counts.

There is a quote from the Bible of Jesus Christ that says it well: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I believe it was Sri Yukteswar, Yogananda’s guru, who put it this way: If you fail to seek God in the summer of your life, don’t expect Him to be there in the winter!”

These are ways of saying that if you put off the spiritual journey in favor of mundane, day to day, duties, you may find the inspiration to seek God beginning to wane and may disappear entirely.

So, as practical and common sense as your circumstances seem, I offer to you this possibility: with God anything is possible. If you put kriya first in your life, God will help you figure out the rest of the details of life.

But if you feel you should wait, and you give otherwise practical reasons to do so, fear not, but keep up your daily prayers, satsang, good works and meditations, praying always for guidance in the matter of your next step and initiation into kriya.

Blessings to you on your journey!
