Answer

Dear Raju,

Swami Kriyananda’s comments on that video (which he repeats on all of his talks these last several years, and, from time to time for several decades) have their origin in predictions made by Paramhansa Yogananda in the late 1940’s and early ’50’s before his passing in 1952.

In addition, there is a great deal of concern and objective evidence for the possibility of widespread economic collapse or challenges around the world, but especially in certain countries such as America and Europe (and of course, by extension, elsewhere as well).

Some would say it has already begun. Yogananda did not give a date for his predictions but his tone made it clear he wasn’t talking centuries, but years only. Swami Kriyananda says that it is imminent and that it has already begun.

It is not feasible to enumerate all the economic, social, or even karmic reasons for such an event in a response such as this. Moreover, it is neither my nor Ananda’s role to analyze or forecast economic predictions or conditions on that level alone. That having been said, however, there are numerous economic commentators and analyists who have said, some for many years, that economic collapse is due, especially in the West.

Perhaps the most obvious fact I can point to is the technical bankruptcy of Western governments (national, state, local) and the glaring trade deficits of countries like America.

From our standpoint the issue is to take advantage of such seeming hardships to prepare and serve spiritually and to see such as opportunities and reminders that there is no security in the world of maya. God alone is our stocks and bonds.

After a time of great tribulation, Yogananda predicted that the world will be sick of war and competition and that several hundred years of relative peace will ensue. We are in an ascendant age of consciousness and the troubles we will experience are part of the birth of a new era and the shedding of a more constrictive level of consciousness.

Blessings,
Nayaswami Hriman
