Raised a Christian, Now Spiritually Seeking

Question

Hello,

I was raised in a strict Christian home. I finally got out of that negative environment, but since then I have been feeling unhappy spiritually. I want to get close to God and I want to get close to the inner me, but I am not sure how. I have always been drawn to India and Indian philosophy. Can you help??

Thanks

Logan

Answer

Dear Logan,

You have come to a place inside yourself that most of us come to eventually. For me it was a difficult time filled with doubt and insecurities. Than I attended a lecture by Swami Kriyananda, a direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda, and found my home. I have since been living in a spiritual community filled with like-minded individuals who are all seeking God. What more could anyone ask for?

As you can see by the names of my spiritual “directors” our spiritual lives consist of a philosophy guided by India. But if you read, Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramhansa Yogananda, you will see that we follow Sanantan Dharma, which is the basis of all religions. Yoganandaji has brought these teachings to America to re-awaken the true teachings of Christ. He brought them with a very practical, down-to-earth expression so we can understand them and incorporate them in our lives.

Please do buy the Autobiography of a Yogi to start with. Come also to Ananda, the community founded on these teachings. Look us up on ananda.org and visit our retreat facilities, expandinglight.org. At the retreat you can receive classes on these teachings or just come and be in a wonderful spiritual environment. We are here to help you find whatever spiritual path works for you. Do come.

Joy to you, Seva
