Answer

Thank you for your integrity in asking such a question. With sacred techniques so widely (and often inappropriately) available these days, questions such as yours too often go unasked.

Paramhansa Yogananda taught the Hong-Sau technique as the first in a succession of techniques that he asked his disciples to practice. However, it is not unique to his particular lineage, nor is it necessary to receive initiation from a guru in order to practice it. It is a widely known practice. Go for it! Ananda will be happy to support you in your practice.

On the other hand, Kriya Yoga, the most advanced technique of meditation, should indeed be received by initiation from an authorized teacher of Yoganandaji’s lineage. Hong-Sau practice is an excellent-and necessary-first step toward receiving Kriya Yoga initiation from Ananda. You can find more info on Kriya on Ananda’s Kriya Yoga website. And since you are from India, you’ll also be interested in Kriya information on the Ananda India website.
