Temptations

Question

I am in the process of reading "Autobiography of a Yogi".

"...Face fear in its face....it will not trouble you..." conversation of Sri Yukteshwarji with Sri Paramahamsa yoganandaji.

How to face temptations? Is there any such simple and effective thumb rule for the same?

Answer

Dear Rajesh,

I haven’t heard of a simple answer to facing temptations. What might work is to realize that you have a temptation for something, holding it away from yourself, and looking at it with impartial “eyes”. This way you can see that the temptation may seem very good, but in reality will give you much suffering and pain in the long run.

With temptations it is always good when realizing your attention has been caught, to bring in the help of your guru. Give the temptation to God and guru. Then walk away from it. Do something else that is very serviceful for others with all your attention. Be active for God.

Bless you, Seva
