In every undertaking, the way for the devotee to “hit the mark” of spiritual enlightenment, is to ignore every distraction and center all of your attention on the object of success. Not for the spiritual hero, the hand-wringing lament, “Oh, but think of the difficulties I face!”
The more a person gives generously of himself, to God and to life, the more karmic law supports him in return. Always keep a generous attitude even if you haven’t the financial means to be generous in more material ways.
When the motor scooter bucked, my body was launched into the air. Witnesses said I did at least one cartwheel, but I only remember a blur. I believe my right leg folded up under me as I hit the pavement with my full body weight. Then I rolled lengthwise several times until I was lying face up on the grass by the roadside.
Since I felt no love in my heart, I prayed to my Guru, Paramhansa Yogananda, and asked him to love people through me. I hoped thereby to learn how to love.
Suddenly finding myself in the turbulent deeper waters, the memory of my near-drowning experience surfaced. I panicked and swam back to the beach.
There are some people who never do anything, and they’re always relaxed. Such lives may be pleasant, but they don’t advance you spiritually. You do not attain peace merely by escaping responsibility.
Beloved, we have come to a place together, where it is very difficult to leave Your presence. How difficult it was, at the beginning of this journal, to hold You for very long. I had been attending yoga classes for about two years when three men in dark suits appeared one day and arrested our teacher. Everyone knew that someone from the class had betrayed him by reporting him to the KGB. Later we learned that our teacher had been arrested for distributing the yoga literature he had translated.

Remember, we are all in the slippery milk pail of life, trying to get free from our troubles like the two frogs. Most people give up trying and fail like the big frog. But we must learn to persevere in our effort toward one goal, as the little frog did.
Remember: the conscious evil force of Satan could not influence human minds if they did not allow it. It is therefore better to know all the lures of evil and the ways to combat them than to blindly deny their existence.
When we share, we are affirming our faith in God, and that we are a part of everyone. This is how we all need to live. Everything we do, we should do for Him. When we live that way, we find that whatever we give comes back to us a thousand-fold.
