About Tyagi Maitreyi

My name is Maitreyi and I live on the Isle of Man, UK.

My roles include wife to husband Michael, mother of two, now grown, children: Nicola and Matthew.  My work history started in nursing back in the late seventies, with a break whilst I raised my children.

I then had a career change and studied horticulture, ran my own garden design business for a while, and also served as a gardener/planner to an English stately home.  Although my love of plants had led me into the gardening field, I reaped no reward from working for rich people.

Providence decided to change my direction.  My husband suffered a heart attack.  Whilst visiting him in hospital, he set the seed about my going back to nursing, after he had seen my distress at some poor nursing care.  I now serve as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit of our island hospital.

My spiritual awakening was more or less instantaneous about 6 years ago.  I had recently moved to the Island from England.  I was introduced to the concept of energy healing, which totally drew me, and I began devouring any information I could.

Reading mostly New Age materials for a few years, I then came to the point where I had more or less exhausted new information, and I came to the sobering realization that I actually needed to do something to attain realization, rather than just read about it.  I was getting nowhere.

About 3 years ago I put out a heart-rendered plea to God to send me a true teacher. He heard me! I was sent my Guru very shortly after this.  The way Guru presented and the way I was so obviously led into Yoga is a story in itself and recounted in my book, Touching Soul, due to be published shortly, by Crystal Clarity Publishers.

Becoming a disciple of Yoganandaji was the best decision I have made in this life.  My life has changed completely. I was initiated into Kriya Yoga, along with my daughter, Nicola, in summer 2009, and have recently started an Ananda Meditation Group on the Isle of Man.

Yoga is my life, and with the support of Ananda Sangha I am endeavouring to live life according to Yoga principles and devote my life to God and giving service to Him.
