A Healing Prayer Newsletter Update
Over the next few days, I may put out more frequent messages. These excerpts contains many quotes that encourage us that some of the prayers for peace, cooperation and unity begin to surface in Iraq. May those who are striving for expansion and tolerance be protected and guided, may the love of peace grow in the land…may it begin to take root in all receptive souls there.
In the passages below, I have put in “bold” the things that catch my eye as signs of prayers supporting the Light of this effort to find peace, cooperation and unity in Iraq.
If you want to keep it simple, simply stick to the original prayer visualization.
Iraq Leaders Seek Constitution Consensus
Excerpts
“… Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari, a member of Iraq's Shiite majority, acknowledged that the constitution was delayed but said the progress made in the face of the insurgency raging in Sunni Arab areas deserved appreciation. "No constitution has been accomplished in such circumstances and in record time like this," the premier said. "Even if there has been a delay, it is compatible with the efforts exerted to convince our Sunni Arab brothers."
Iraqi leaders had been battling to win Sunni Arab agreement for the draft constitution and restore calm after deadly fighting erupted between rival Shiite factions in a new threat to the political process.
“…Earlier Thursday, a very radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on his followers to end clashes with Shiite rivals, one day after his office in the holy city of Najaf was burned and four of his supporters were killed…In calling for calm, al-Sadr urged "all believers to spare the blood of the Muslims and to return to their homes."
"I will not forget this attack on the office ... but Iraq is passing through a critical and difficult period that requires unity," he told reporters in his home in Najaf. "I urge the believers not to attack innocent civilians…" al-Sadr said. "We are passing through a critical period and a political process."
He demanded that Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, leader of the rival Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, or SCIRI, condemn "what his followers have done." SCIRI thendenied any role in the attack on al-Sadr's office and issuing a statement urging an end to the bloodshed — also calling it "a plot that targets our unity." …
Also, please continue to pray for the leaders in Iraq that they may be guided and protected…it is an important part of the country stabilizing and moving forward in peace. There have been several FAILED assassination attempts in the last few days. Unfortunately, many body guards lost their lives.
“…Iraqi leaders seen to be cooperating with the U.S.-led coalition have been frequent targets for attack, and on Thursday, gunmen attacked cars owned by President Jalal Talabani, killing eight of his bodyguards and wounding 15, a security official said (The prime minister was not in the cars, fortunately) ….The attack came three days after Environment Minister Narmin Othman escaped an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked her convoy north of Baghdad, wounding three bodyguards…”
