About the AUM Fund
(Ananda’s United Mission)

Paramhansa Yogananda’s life and mission brought to the world deep joy, hope, and inspiration. Yet in 1990, Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) sued Ananda in an attempt to monopolize Yoganandaji’s teachings.

Ananda fought back and eventually won that lawsuit. All the ways that we are able to serve today — every book, website, advertisement, class and seminar, Kriya and Discipleship initiation, online program, and download — is made possible because we defeated SRF’s legal claim that it held an exclusive right to represent Yogananda.

Every one of us today, and every person who will be drawn to Ananda in the future, will benefit from this hard-won victory.

The Great “Tapasya”
(Sanskrit meaning: an austerity undertaken out of love for God)

It took 12 years (1990 – 2002) for Ananda to win this struggle. The blessings were huge … the costs were huge… and it was worth every penny! By the end it had cost Ananda just over $12 million to ensure our right, and the rights of others, to freely access, publish and share Master’s works — his teachings, writings, chants, and images of him.

Between 1992 and October 2011, the AUM Fund had paid off $10.8 million in legal debt. In October we announced a global campaign to pay the remaining $1.16 million by the end of 2012. We chose 2012 because it is the 10th anniversary of the end of our legal battle and an auspicious time to be freed of the burden of this debt. As of December 2012 we've received $1,148,000 in donations!
