Swami Kriyananda reads and comments on his book Conversations with Yogananda for the TV series A Way to Awakening, recorded in India.

The fascinating realm of the subconscious mind is discussed by Kriyananda. He states that there is nothing unconscious about the subconscious and the profound influence it can exert over our lives, because it is a receptacle only for what we have fed it. Kriyananda shares a cautionary tale that illustrates how the subconscious can actually be an accomplice in the challenges and struggles we encounter.

Kriyananda encourages us to embrace and make friends with the subconscious and he By directing the subconscious energy towards the superconscious we can ultimately create an environment of cooperation and support. Ultimately, we can win the support of this powerful influencer and transform it into a loyal ally that can help us achieve our objectives and a purposeful life.

ABOUT SWAMI KRIYANANDA
In 1948 at the age of 22, Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters) became a disciple of the Indian yoga master Paramhansa Yogananda who is best known for his spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. In his book he recalls his experiences growing up in India and his life in America. He writes of meeting the great spiritual master Babaji, and how Babaji reintroduced the life-changing meditation technique of Kriya Yoga. He tells of his life with his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, of his guru Lahiri Mahasaya, and his meeting with Anandamoy Ma. He tells about his experience in cosmic consciousness (samadhi) and his trips to see many of the saints in India and to the Kali temple. Yogananda moved to America and developed the Energization Exercises and taught the meditation techniques of Kriya Yoga. He founded Self-Realization Fellowship and spoke often of the need for world brotherhood colonies.

At Yogananda's request, Swami Kriyananda devoted 65 years to lecturing and writing in 7 languages, helping others experience God's presence. His 150 books and 400+ musical works have touched millions worldwide. He advocated simple living and wisdom through self-experience, not dogma. He taught meditation and initiated thousands into Kriya Yoga. His teachings covered business, leadership, education, arts, community, and science, all based on Yogananda's teachings.

Known as the "father of intentional communities," in 1967 he founded the first Ananda community, fulfilling Yogananda's dream. Each of now several worldwide communities combines spiritual focus with community living. Kriyananda's inspired leadership made Ananda successful through selfless example, counseling, writing, lecturing, music and prayer. He trained leaders to put others' spiritual needs first, allow experiential learning, and follow principles of "People are more important than things" and "Dharma brings victory."

ABOUT PARAMHANSA YOGANANDA
Paramhansa Yogananda, born in 1893, was the first yoga master of India to take up permanent residence in the West. Yogananda arrived in America in 1920, and proceeded to travel throughout the United States on what he called his “spiritual campaigns.” Hundreds of thousands filled the largest halls in major American cities to see the yoga master from India. Yogananda continued to lecture and write up to his passing in 1952.

Paramhansa Yogananda’s initial impact on Western culture was truly impressive. But his lasting spiritual legacy has been even greater. His Autobiography of a Yogi, first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Translated into more than a dozen languages, it remains a best-selling spiritual classic to this day.
