What is God’s zone? His zone is superconsciousness. He is Infinite, and the infinite Source of answers to all of life’s challenges.

Paramhansa Yogananda said: “God is omnipresent. Man’s soul, made in His image, has in it the seed experience of omnipresence. That omnipresence is hidden in the little soul as a tree is secreted in a small seed.”

Why Don’t We Live in God’s Zone All the Time?

Swami Kriyananda writes in his book Rays of the One Light:

When it comes to moral and spiritual development, people commonly identify themselves with their weaknesses and their mistakes. They consider it almost a sign of humility to say, “I am a sinner,” though in effect what this means is that they identify themselves with their sinfulness, not with the soul’s power to transcend all limitations in God.

The way to know God is to live in godly consciousness, and not to bewail our imperfection and our distance from God.

His vibrations are of: peace, calmness, love, joy, power, light, sound, and wisdom.

The more we can let go and tune to God’s zone, the more easily we can overcome our challenges in life.

I Had an Experience of the Power of Tapping into God’s Zone

At the end of year-long project I had worked on, there were only a few things left to complete. I had a specific plan on to how to finish the project successfully. Then I discovered that the person I expected to help me was unable to do so. When I heard this news at home, I was disappointed and had no idea how to proceed. I could feel myself becoming anxious and distressed. But I also had to leave for work at The Expanding Light Retreat and didn’t have time to try to figure out a new solution.

IMG_6353As I stepped out of the house to leave for work, I stood in front of the door and looked up towards heaven. With a great deal of emotion, I said to God: “YOU deal with this and figure it out!” As I said this, I was surprised to experience a release of “a lot of steam” — I felt as if a stone was lifted from my heart.

As I walked to The Expanding Light, still agitated, I started to recite a few verses from the seventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, which I had been repeating at that time at the end of my morning meditations:

I am the fluidity of water. I am the silver light of the moon and the golden light of the sun. I am the AUM chanted in all the Vedas: the cosmic Sound moving as if soundlessly through the ether. I am the manliness of men. I am the good sweet smell of the moist earth. I am the luminescence of fire; the sustaining life of all living creatures. I am self-offering in those who would expand their little lives into cosmic life. O Arjuna, know Me as the eternal seed of all creatures. In the perceptive, I am their perception. In the great, I am their greatness. In the glorious, it is I who am their glory.

IMG_6348As I kept repeating these sacred verses, I felt increasing inner peace, and at one point, I felt lifted to a higher realm. I paused in the middle of the meadow and closed my eyes. As I stood calmly, my mind and heart were completely still. At that moment, I received the solution for how to complete the project. I opened my eyes and looked up towards heaven. With deep gratitude, I offered my thanks to God for the perfect solution I had received.

Later, as I reflected on this incident, I realized how often we tend to cling to our human limitations. But when we are able to let go, to surrender to God and be fed by His light, our consciousness is lifted; we enter God’s zone, where we can receive solutions to every problem.

Lesson Learned

When the tsunami of emotions and egoic desires starts to well up inside of you, the only way to avoid drowning is to rise above them. Don’t cling to them. Instead, cling to God. Give your problems to Him. He can handle it. Don’t grasp your problems and become hypnotized by them. Instead, let go, and offer yourself completely to God. Surrender all into His hands.

Paramhansa Yogananda said: “Silence is the altar of God.”

Only in silence can we feel God’s presence. God’s voice is silence. If we want to commune with Him, we need to silence our mind. When we allow the mind to become restless with thoughts and desires, we bring ourselves down to a level where God cannot communicate with us.

Ways to Tap into God’s Zone

  1. Meditate daily. Meditation is a doorway to superconsciousness. “Through meditation you learn how to disconnect your energy from the senses and consciously go into the Infinite. You experience an expansion of consciousness from the boundaries of the body to the boundaries of eternity.” —ParamhansaYogananda
  1. Learn to live more superconsciously. This means to live with meditation-born awareness. Try to make the peace you experience in meditation the basis of your objective experience of life. Don’t let the meditative peace slip between your fingers like grains of sand the moment you find the winds of worldly duties again buffeting you.” —Swami Kriyananda
  1. The more you can direct your mental flow upward and outward the more blissful you will become. Only from the level of attunement and surrender to God’s will and by active self-offering to God can we draw inspirations and bring them to our practical level of existence.” —Swami Kriyananda
  1. Gaze upward often during the day (at the spiritual eye, between the eyebrows).
  1. Think unitively, less analytically. Focus on finding the relationships between things. Don’t dwell on differences, but see others as your own greater self.
  1. Ask: What is trying to happen here? Stay open, listen, and pay attention. Asking this question can help you look at the bigger picture.
  1. Avoid dwelling on problems constantly. Let them rest. During these periods of rest, go deep into your calm center within. When you become in tune with your soul, you’ll be able to get clarity.

In Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramhansa Yogananda describes the state of living in God’s zone:

The advanced yogi, withholding all his mind, will, and feeling from false identification with bodily desires, uniting his mind with superconscious forces in the spinal shrines, thus lives in this world as God hath planned, not impelled by impulses from the past, nor by new witlessnesses of fresh human motivations. Such a yogi receives fulfillment of his Supreme Desire, safe in the final haven of inexhaustibly blissful Spirit.

When we live in God’s zone, life becomes sweet. Paramhansa Yogananda wrote a beautiful chant, called: When Thy Song Flows Through Me:

  1. Such a beautiful way to start the day, Diksha!
The gift of the beautiful chant at the end was perfect while looking out the window at the trees turned their fall colors. Glorious glorious God everywhere waiting- waiting to help in every way at every moment and we keep forgetting to ask His help, to love Him, to feel Him.
May we all keep attuned through the sacred tools of meditation taught by the Masters to keep our nervous systems and consciousness open to God’s grace.
    With much love and joy,
    Vicki

This is so beautiful Diksha. I am so grateful for your words of wisdom and the vibration of peace and calmness that flow from your words. God has this. God knows our problems and struggles, and no matter how deeply we despair, the whisper of God’s voice is with us always.
    With Love,

  3. Dear Nayaswami, your sublime mail always arrives as if from beyond the earth, from the God’s zone as you call it. We are often embroiled in dead-night zone and increasingly identify ourselves with the daily chores. But Just like the eye of the storm, where the serene silence reigns while the wind rages all around it, there is a God’s zone right in the midst of the Turmoil we call Life. You write so perceptively and show us the way to find what’s known as pathless path. One feels so grateful. Thank you once again – swapan k banerjee
