The Ananda East Coast event celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Paramhansa Yogananda’s arrival in America on September 19, 1920. This event happened on September 19, 2020 and included Ananda centers and meditation groups in Boston, New York, and Rhode Island.

The first part of this event, which was live-streamed, was held at Pier Park where Yogananda’s ship, the City of Sparta, first docked in Boston. The second part was an evening online program that included Asha Nayaswami, Nayaswami Jaya, and Murali Venkatrao speaking about Yogananda’s mission to the West, and in particular the United States, and the impact that mission has had over the past 100 years.

From Ines Hudson, Ananda Boston coordinator of the Pier Park event:

“It was an absolute joy to serve Master through helping to organize this 100th Anniversary event. For the month prior to it I was consumed with the preparations, since I was at the epicenter of the celebration at the Pier Park in Boston. I loved doing it! It was tons of work, joyful work. All my gurubhais were so helpful and served in beautiful ways. The centennial served as an opportunity to offer Master a tribute from his first home in America in Boston. Now that I look back at the event, I see all the ways it could have been better. But it’s best to give it to Master and know that we did our best. Now we’ll see what other joys are in store for us.

In Master’s love and joy,
Ines”
