Practicing visualizations can help you to overcome negative thoughts and emotions, as well as bad habits, by bringing your subconscious mind more under the control of your conscious will. They are helpful to practice at the beginning of a meditation, right after you wake up, or before bed. They bring your focus from your senses and the outside world to the inward spirit, bringing you peace and calmness.
