This 10-week course shares, in a practical way, the Fundamentals of Raja Yoga: the comprehensive yogic path that shows us how to spiritualize our entire life, with meditation as its central practice. The yoga teachings explain that this world is a school, where we are sent to develop our “spiritual muscles” by learning the many lessons life teaches us. When all lessons have been learned, and our consciousness spiritualized; we are able to graduate the School of Life and earn the true “Certificate of Completion”: Self-Realization.

Living the Principles of Self-Realization is the second course on the Path of Kriya Yoga and enrollment in this course follows your completion of Step 1: Ananda Course in Meditation.

The focus of this course is in three main areas: deepening your meditation and your practice of Energization Exercises; 1-1 interaction with the teachers through quizzes, forums and a personal video call; and deepening your understanding of Raja Yoga through live webinars and pre-recorded videos on specific topics by over 10 different teachers.

Meet your Instructors

Tyagi Dhyan became a disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda in 2010, at which point he moved to Ananda Village in Northern California. Serving in many capacities around the community, he gained a well-rounded understanding of how the teachings of Self-realization apply to every facet of life for daily bringing light and inspiration.  Dhyan is an Ananda Lightbearer and Minister. He enthusiastically shares his love for the spiritual life with joyous kindness and inspiration.

Nayaswami Bob moved to Berkeley in 1978 for its open minded and progressive atmosphere, as an aid in the search for his spiritual path. He worked as an environmental geologist for 20 years, most of that time remediating contaminated soil and groundwater.

In 1995, he went on a bike tour that luckily camped at the Expanding Light campground for a night. One look in the eyes of the first person he met was all it took for him to know that this was his path and home.

After studying the teachings and visiting Ananda, he found that Kriya Yoga gave him what he had always been looking for. In 2002, on a planned weeklong visit to help with the computer network, Bob just never left and has served as the Network Administrator for the Sangha computers at the Village ever since. After looking at all the ways to serve the world, it became even more apparent to Bob that being a part of Ananda was the most powerful way to effect change, both for himself and the planet.

Nayswami Susan first found Ananda in Seattle. She was a part of the Seattle Sangha for over 30 years and lived in the ashram in the urban community. She helped begin (and later manage) East West Bookshop, as well as served as a Lightbearer minister and teacher. In October 2017, she was asked to move to California and serve at the Ananda Meditation Retreat. She considers it a privilege to be at the retreat where Ananda began 50 years ago, to share the transforming teachings of yoga, and the joy of meditation.

Susan loves to sing in the choir, and to experience God’s presence in nature.

Shyama Garcia-Davis is an Ananda Minister and Lightbearer, lives in Ananda Village, California and serves in Ananda Sangha Worldwide making Paramhansa Yogananda’s teachings known around the world.

She has studied and practiced Yogananda’s teachings since 2005, integrating them into every aspect of her life. Originally from Spain, she has served at the Ananda communities in Italy, Spain and Ananda Village with enthusiasm, energy and dynamism.

Shyama leads weekend retreats at the Expanding Light Retreat with her husband Dhyan García-Davis, and they both head up the Experience Ananda residency program at Ananda Village.

She is dedicated to living and sharing these liberating teachings with truth seekers, proving that life is much more beautiful when you live with dedication, devotion and service to others.

Nayaswami Mukti is an Ananda minister, spiritual counselor and instructor in meditation and how to live a spiritual life. Her professional background is in biofeedback, stress management and neurorehabilitation. For her, living a life dedicated to seeking higher consciousness is living life’s highest expression.  She finds great joy encouraging others in their spiritual journey.

Nayaswami Sagar resides in the Ananda Monastery located at Ananda Village in Northern California. Born into a family of kriya yogis, Sagar read Paramhansa Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi at a young age, an influence that culminated in his decision to serve Yogananda’s mission through Ananda.

Sagar led Ananda’s work in Mumbai for about five years and has served Ananda’s work in India and the US as a teacher and counselor to students and as a meditation and stress-relief workshop facilitator for corporates.

Sagar currently serves in Ananda’s Online Ministry. He is one of the principal instructors for the Ananda Course in Meditation and has helped create several online offerings such as the full-length courses The Yoga Teachings of Jesus, Karma and Reincarnation and the webinars The Anatomy of the Astral Body, Losing the Fear of Death Through the Science of Yoga, How to Stand Unshaken amidst Life’s Challenges and Refine Your Energization Practice. You can read some of his articles here.

Prior to commencing his life of service at Ananda, Sagar was a graduate student with full scholarship at Boston University and holds advanced degrees in Engineering.
