Sri Yukteswar, the guru of Paramhansa Yogananda who’s teachings are the basis of our path, says we can’t even put one foot in front of the other on the spiritual path without “the awakening of the natural love of the heart.” By “natural love of the heart” he isn’t referring to the type of love that is dependent on another person doing what we want, and when that person goes away or upsets us, the love also goes away. He is referring to the unconditional divine love of the soul. How do we awaken this kind of love? By practicing devotion to God, our Higher Self, Nature, or whatever is inspiring.
