A yogic exploration of life's deepest mystery

Recorded in March 2022

“Master of his body and mind, the Kriya Yogi ultimately achieves victory over the ‘last enemy,’ death.

‘So shalt thou feed on Death, that feeds on men:
And Death once dead, there’s no more dying then.’ (Shakespeare, Sonnet 146)

— Paramhansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi

Swami Kriyananda often called Death the “Final Exam.” The ultimate teaching of all yoga-science is the possibility of making this transition with complete freedom of consciousness.

Based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, this webinar combines the metaphysical aspects of this great mystery with practical insights on how to understand, prepare for, and befriend this mystical transition that each of us must one day experience.

The yogi who, during his lifetime, has practiced withdrawing his energy and consciousness from the body is able to greet death as an old friend. Permanently released by conscious transition, he emerges from the body with great joy. — Swami Kriyananda, The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita

This 2-hour webinar covers:

      • The metaphysical purpose of death

When my dad passed away ten years ago, I was heartbroken to the point that I couldn’t eat, dropped 17 pounds just like that, and developed chest pains. From then on, I wanted to learn as much as I could about death and dying so that it would not be such a miserable experience when another loved one would leave me. This webinar was an excellent investment towards that end. Sagar is an engaging guide; he presented this difficult and fascinating topic in a sensitive and credible way, and used practical everyday-life examples to help us understand concepts. When death makes more sense, then life makes more sense. And we can live more purposefully. Thank you Sagar! Well done.— Diane C, Minnesota

This webinar takes a practical approach to demystifying the greatest question we all contemplate at some point – what happens when we die. It is at the same time comforting, exciting, hopeful, instructive, and logical. Sagar has utmost respect for the subject, while also delivering the information with a delightful lightness and radiance that makes you happy to be in his presence and part of his lesson. Cannot recommend more highly!— Janine S., Colorado

Like an ocean wave is linked to their corresponding trough, life is inextricably linked to death. In this webinar, Sagar compassionately leads us through the yogic perspective of the purpose of death, what actually happens at the time of death, and how we can prepare for death. By explaining the meaning of such sayings as “Breathlessness is deathlessness” and “the last enemy to be conquered is death”, we learn to face life successfully and therefore become able to “greet death as an old friend”. Physical life is linked to physical death, and the yogic principles that help master life also help master death. Informative handouts are included.

I’ve just finished this wonderful course about the Fear of Death and I thank Sagar very much.
I didn’t know many aspects of this subject and lots of them scared me. I have again fear of the death of my loved ones, but I know I have much work to do with techniques and with meditation. When I red what happens during and after death I felt myself more serene and more eager to improve the techniques of meditation for my spiritual path. I hope these will help me and more other people who search the truth.
    Thank you very much

This presentation provided a review of how the soul descends into the body, pointers on how we can prepare ourselves for the “final exam,” and suggestions on how we can help others as they face their own transition. The information presented was practical and useful, giving me pointers that could be immediately put into practice. Thank you, Sagar, for this most helpful class.

In Autobiography of a Yogi, Yogananda describes how he was rescued and helped study for his exams by a good student, Romesh Chandra Dutt, which enabled Yogananda ultimately to pass his courses. This course is very much like that: helping us prepare for death, the final exam. There are many details about the actual process as well as how to prepare ourselves, which is very reassuring.

As with other courses that Sagar offers, there’s not only the content, but also the subtle energy or vibration of the course that is shared. Both are rich and tremendously helpful.

    Hi Sagar,
What a treat for my spirit. I am ever challenged these days with an addiction. I have a sense of the cost to my LIFE. I don’t want to carry this negative baggage with me into my next life, not to mention having to deal with it in the period after my passing when there is no escape. I am so grateful to be grateful. Yogananda is my way, my truth, my light, and my life.

    Keep up your great work.

I think every human being on this planet should attend this webinar because usually people don’t like to talk about death and the reason is fear or lack of education. Death is part of life on this planet and we have to be fully prepared to welcome death as an old lovely friend. Thank you Sagar for shedding the light on such an interesting and amazing topic.

What a wonderful webinar. The unique, yet all inclusive answers and descriptions of death and dying, touching on rebirth and Soul purpose, were clear and thoughtful and delivered with Sagar’s unique sense of humor, the kind only a trained engineer can achieve :)
I appreciated the comfort that the information brought and the sense that death is a normal, acceptable part of the evolution of our Journey through this Eternal Play. Somewhere, there is a place, where death is met with Joy, and it is for this place that we strive to ascend.
    Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful webinar. Sagar takes time and answers difficult questions with patience and clarity. His discourse on how the Great Masters have described the Final Experience helps bring death into perspective. The lessons we learn are part of life’s fabric. Death is yet another lesson to be experienced, not feared. Sagar is a great lecturer and makes a uncomfortable subject approachable. He also provides good resources and a handout for reference and deeper reading. I highly recommend this webinar.

Beautifully presented Sagar Just like all your webinars. You understand the subject so so well that you help me to have that clear picture with no doubt at all to the truth of what you are saying. That is also true of all material written by Yoganandaji and Swamiji .. It was such a delight and blessing to have attended the webinar. I may not be able to get Kriya initiation this lifetime but you sure gave me other ways to pass my final exam with dignity and no fear. I loved it and feel so blessed and inspired. Thank you so very much.
Gods choicest blessings that U never have to come back again
    Joy and Peace.

There are many important aspects of life which we human beings do not know, however there is just one very important thing that we know for certain and it is that we all each of us sooner or later will die. This webinar helps us to understand not just what may happen to us at the moment to pass away this life but also the purpose of it. Sagar is one of the very best teachers of Ananda and he makes a wonderful job that every soul interested will enjoy. Besides if you wish to start walking the spiritual path this is possibly the best begin.

As a physician who practiced emergency medicine for 25 years and one who has also studied principles and practices of palliative care medicine, this topic of Losing Fear of Death Through the Science of Yoga has special significance to me.

There exists a beautiful union of western medicine and Yogic Teachings and techniques. As physicians, we have some treatments and techniques to ease pain and suffering from disease, and sometimes to even cure it. But, we are not magicians, nor are we God. There are some things we do not know, somethings we cannot cure. At some point, every person who is born on this earth, passes away. However, as health care providers, we can educate about what tools we have and offer what comfort is in our power.

In his course, Sagar addresses many important existential questions that, I believe, when addressed by an individual from a state of calm focus, AND, preferably BEFORE an acute illness or injury occurs, can make the difference between a beautiful death versus a tormented death. Through the techniques and teachings of traditional Yoga…that which Ananda Yoga is…there is the wisdom and peace available to comfort us all…that is all of us, the ones who provide care as well as the individual and those he/she loves and who loves him/her.

I not only recommend this webinar but also can’t wait to see it’s evolution!

As a cradle Catholic, I had quite a fear of dying as I was growing up, being fearful of an stern God who would be quick to condemn me. As an adult I have been so enriched by the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda and so grateful for all the blessings that have come to me via the courses that are offered through Ananda. Sagar’s course on dying was excellent–clear and concise. Since I am more of a visual learner rather than audio, I really appreciated the printed material that was part of the course.

My big gratitude to Sagar, he has made me less fearful about death, however I believe my fear is not dying but the “immaterial world” , after we become non-physical, and thinking about karma, who will judge me about my karma, and of course the other side is not a replica of life as we know it. Sagar excellent lecture gave us peace of mind and an extensive material to learn and meditate about it, he has give us some relief about death, with some examples from our daily life that we can reflect upon and accept the inevitable.
    Thank you Sagar.

This webinar came to me as a gift from God. Heartfelt thanks, Sagar, for giving me Light on the hard topic of Death, especially since I’m passing through a time of separation from my spouse who transitioned just two months ago. Now I have a framework about what death is and means, and it feels reconciling.
Sagar is an illuminated soul and treats the subject with Tenderness and Compassion. I am truly grateful.

In yoga, we learn how to die the moment we are born. This insightful webinar helps one understands why death happens, and how to embrace the inevitable without fear. More importantly, it helps us discern what we ought to start doing immediately in preparation for the moment. It is never too late to begin the preparation. Practice, practice, practice: the Science of Kriya Yoga. Fantastic teaching. We are grateful for your wisdom, Sagar.

    Humble blessings.

Losing the Fear of Death is such an inspiring and educational webinar. It gives you a new perspective on this sensitive subject. Sagar’s approach was from his heart and not from “cold spiritual mathematics.”
This topic gives you so much material to theorize for hours but Sagar presented it from a practical point of view. He addressed different ways in which we can lose the fear of death based on the science of Yoga.
The course provides good reading material to dive deeper in the subject as well as several book recommendations.

Sagar’s presentation on Losing the Fear of Death was so well done and highly educational. i shared it with a friend and she promptly went to the website to order it. The levity of which the material was presented was delightful, as well as his honesty in sharing what he knows as heart and soul wisdom.

Everyone dies, so this subject is relevant for all. Death is associated with extreme fear as we don’t have the relevant knowledge and skill set to face the same to make the most of it. Sagar presented this difficult topic dextrously and the contents of the reading material are very beneficial to those who are interested in looking at fear in its face. Great realisation to know that death has its benefits. We know what we know, we know what we don’t know and we don’t know what we don’t know. This course is exciting intellectually and also experientially. Recommend to all those who die !

Sagar helped me to feel that I have the power to determine the state of my consciousness when I die. The outward circumstances are not as important as my attitude. I can start preparing for it in that way today. This has relieved great stress in these turbulent times when so much is out of my control. Learning the uplifting and practical ways to prepare for this “final exam” is highly recommended.
