Dear Friends,
The results of the election were quite a shock to us, as probably to most people. We are entering a new era in politics and many people will be unsettled, anxious, perhaps even fear filled. At times like this we all need to be, ever more strongly, instruments for God’s light. Remember, this is God’s dream and He is in charge. Conditions are always neutral, as Master has taught, and everything is an opportunity for our spiritual growth. It is up to us to use this opportunity well. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Don’t expose yourself to too much news, either on the Internet or other media. The media now will be filled with anxiety, discord, and polarizing opinions—some people lauding the results and others upset or angry. Many will be speculating on the future effects of the election. National politics is mass karma over which we have little or no personal control. Our primary individual responsibility is to keep our consciousness high and attuned to God and Gurus. The best course of action now is to deepen your meditation and serve ever more expansively.

What God gives, we take. See this as a precious spiritual opportunity. Many people will be upset and will need to find sources of light. Let Ananda be one of those sources. God may be using this as an opportunity to help people turn toward spiritual rather than social solutions.

Think in terms of long rhythms. If we look only to the present and near future we will miss the bigger picture of slow social upliftment that is one of the hallmarks of Dwapara Yuga. Master foresaw “bumps” like this simply as necessary steppingstones along the way. As we know, many years ago Master was blocked by some government restrictions and commented wryly (as people do), “There ought to be a revolution!” He paused a moment, then said more quietly, “There will be one.” This election may be what, in part, he was foreseeing.

Try to stay centered and not to live in your own likes and dislikes. During turbulent times people’s expectations will be thwarted, which will lead to widespread frustration and anger. Be centered, so that you can be a “bridge over troubled waters.”

Keep everyone in your prayers: Trump as the new president, other government officials, this potentially noble nation, and other countries and leaders. The world is, more than ever, in need of peace and harmony. Prayer is greatly needed now and it might be a good time to revisit Master’s and Swamiji’s teachings on how to pray effectively, as well as prayers they’ve given us that are particularly applicable just now. Here is a link to one of them.

We hold all of you, dear friends, in our hearts and prayers. Tomorrow we leave for our last big tour, to Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, and Puri. By staying busy and serving to the best of our ability, we will do our best to stay in God’s all-embracing light. May you do the same.

In divine friendship,

Jyotish and Devi

  2. Love. “Only Love can take my place.” Let’s dust off our wings and get busy! Thank you Jyotish and Devi for your consistently attuned messages leading us all to a higher consciousness no matter the circumstances, times, nor place.

  3. Dear Jyotish and Devi,
Thank you for writing this letter and the article. Your words have affirmed what came to me around 10 pm on Tuesday evening. I was sitting stunned in front of my computer, watching the election results and then something made me move. I began working on an Ananda project and thought I am feeling okay now. I am right here. Then I vowed to stop watching the news and instead focus on our spiritual teachings. I have felt mostly love and hope since then. There is no other way than to look toward the light. I am so filled with gratitude for Master and Swamiji and all my Gurubais.
Love and blessings to the world.

  4. Dear Devi and Jyotish,
Thank you for these much-needed, beautiful, and heart-inspired words. May we all be in alignment together for the Highest Good. And would Master support a truly peaceful but powerful revolution…besides the ones going on within? Just curious. :-)
    Blessings and Love,

  5. Dear teachers,
We live in this moment of dark night. Our hearts feel pain and grief.I know there must be light in between, but living around this turbulent events very difficult to keep peace .I feel urge to fight with my voice ,stand for the truth .I love you Ananda, love your teaching, it gives me strength and support !

  6. Oh, thank you for the clarity and for giving us this vision. Yes, we know it, but it so helps (and heals) to put it in context for what’s going on right now!! Amen!!

  7. How can I thank you for your loving, gracious and spirited words? Your letter came not a moment too soon, lifting my dark mood and bringing me strength to face another day…… a new day filled with hope and prayer for our broken country.

  8. It is so comforting to find your uplifting pieces among a ton of troubling emails about the election – just what we need to be reminded of during these tumultuous times. Your advice to focus on the Big Picture, tune out the news, to meditate more deeply and “love heroically” is the best antidote to what might otherwise send us into a tailspin of despair. Thank you for shining a much-needed light through the gloom.

  9. Although I am a disciple of Yoganandya and a kriyaban, I feel that we are also at times called to be activists in the face of darkness and evil. It is true that deeper meditations and holding everyone in the light and praying for peace are of utmost importance, but isn’t it also true that we must defend those you are being maligned, through perhaps even demonstrations or other acts of civil disobedience? Surely Gandhi was a mystic and an activist, and I’m sure many in the resistance in the second World War were very spiritual people. I don’t see how we can just make ourselves feel less anxious and not work for a better world in more outwardly ways while remaining spiritual, especially if we feel called to such work.

  10. Some of us are trump supporters. We were horrified under the last eight years of obama. Trump will change this country for good, by repairing the damage caused by the Obama madness.
