Our recent time in India was life changing in many ways. Over time we’ll be sharing with you some of our experiences there, but one of the inner transformations that occurred for which we are very grateful is a strong desire for longer, deeper meditations. This grace began during our seclusion in the Himalayas, and has continued upon our return to Ananda Village.

This morning, however, as I began to get ready for meditation, a shade of reluctance entered my mind, and the thought arose, “Do I really have to do this every morning?”

Then I felt a powerful response within: “You are not doing this for yourself alone, but for the good of others. People of devotion need to send out vibrations of peace and love into the world now.

Healing Prayer for World Peace at Christmas Time Quote by Paramhansa Yogananda

Paramhansa Yogananda at Christmas Banquet, 1951

Paramhansa Yogananda said that during the Christmas season the vibrations of the universal Christ consciousness are especially strong on earth, and more accessible to those who are receptive. This is not dependent on whether or not you consider yourself a Christian.

The Christ consciousness (known in India as Kutastha Chaitanya, or Krishna Consciousness) is part of the very fabric of creation and of all souls. It can be felt as unconditional love and forgiveness, unity with all people, and an experience of God in everything.

At this time the voices of hatred, violence, divisiveness, and ignorance are screaming so loudly that they seem to drown out the simple song of God’s voice in our soul. Now is the time for people of faith in every religion to stand up for good will and righteousness and offer them to the world.

If you are a Christian, fill your consciousness with forgiveness and brotherhood; if you are a Jew, with wisdom and compassion; a Muslim, with the thought that one God blesses and unites us all; a Buddhist, with blessings for all sentient beings; a Hindu, with a sense of God’s presence in everything; or a yogi, with a transcendent union with divine love.

These are two gifts that you can offer the world:

1) Pray and meditate until you feel a divine touch of peace or love within you. Then consciously send these vibrations into the world both in prayer and through all your interactions throughout the day.

2) Let the voice of Divine Love in your heart be expressed in whatever ways God makes available to you. It’s not enough to sadly shake our heads when hatemongers rant and arouse people’s negative emotions. We must actively counter this energy with higher consciousness.

Remember these words of our Guru during this Christmas season:

I will mentally join in the worship in all mosques, churches, and temples; and perceive the birth of the universal Christ consciousness as peace on the altar of all devotional hearts.

O Christ, may the birth of Thy love be felt in all hearts this Christmas, and every day.

Joined with you in universal Christ love,

Nayaswami Devi

  9. Thank you so much for this, Devi. The perfect answer to my own question: “Oh, I’m OK…why do I need to meditate?” Even if I AM willing to settle for “OK” (and whoever is, really?), maybe I can put a few good vibrations out to world…which is so troubled now. God bless you and yours, this season and always.

    With much love,
    Eileen
