From A Tale of Songs by Swami Kriyananda
“This song came to me while I was visiting the English countryside not far from the town of Hastings. For the first time, perhaps, I felt the presence, whether real or imagined, of fairies and minor deities populating the woods and fields. Paramhansa Yogananda wrote, in Autobiography of a Yogi, and later in his interpretations of the Bhagavad Gita, that these beings exist. In the latter book he explained the rationale for maintaining with them a relationship of reciprocal service and good will.

“I included this song in the wedding ceremony I wrote, invoking the blessings of the devas on the couple being united in God’s love.”

LYRICS
You devas of woodland, of mountain and field:
Come show’r on us blessings and light.
The wonders that Nature, befriended, can yield
Reveal to our hearing and sight.
Your melodies, whispering joy on the air,
Affirm that God’s ev’rywhere.
O devas of woodland, of mountain and field,
Be with us in blessing this night.
