We all desire to love and be loved, not just impersonally, in a cosmic sense, but also personally. One of the deepest longings of the human heart is to find a partner, to share a romance - is this yearning a hindrance on the spiritual path, or can we learn how to transform human love into divine aspiration? Through this song, and the wonderful poetry from Shakespeare, we get a glimpse into how to uplift our heart's love to divine perfection.

Lyrics

William Shakespeare
Two Gentlemen of Verona

Who is Silvia, what is she?
That all our swains commend her?
Holy, fair, and wise is she:
The heav’n such grace did lend her,
That she might admired be,
That she might admired be.

Is she kind as she is fair?
For beauty lives with kindness.
To her eyes love doth repair,
To help him of his blindness,
And, being helped inhabits there,
And, being helped, inhabits there.

Then to Silvia let us sing,
That Silvia is excelling;
She excels each mortal thing
Upon the dull earth dwelling.
To her let us garlands bring,
To her let us garlands bring.

Swami Kriyananda:

“Who Is Sylvia?
The lyrics are Shakespeare’s;
The melody, ours;
The grace and beauty – Sylvia’s!”
