The ANANDA MUSIC ORAL HISTORY VIDEOS capture the essence of living and sharing the music of Ananda. Listen to longtime devotee musicians share their stories and remembrances of spiritual lessons learned from working on the songs and chants of Swami Kriyananda and Paramhansa Yogananda.

Nayaswami Uma came to Ananda in 1976 for a month and never left. She describes that first experience as having come home. Born and raised in the UK, music was always a part of her life. When Uma first heard the music at Ananda, she was deeply moved and happily joined the Ghandarvas (a singing group in the early years of Ananda). Uma has enjoyed being part of the music ever since.

“Swamiji wrote music incredibly, purposefully, deliberately -- as were Master’s Cosmic Chants -- designed to bring us to an experience of God…Ananda Music is designed for you. It is for each one of us to be changed in our consciousness.” “Swami would say be in your heart, do it for the joy of it, and that is the beautiful part of singing and sharing. Swamiji didn’t like a lot of technical training with the voice, he was more interested in the natural singing of the heart.”
