Ananda Music Oral History: Karen Gamow

September 14, 2022

The ANANDA MUSIC ORAL HISTORY VIDEOS capture the essence of living and sharing the music of Ananda. Listen to longtime devotee musicians share their stories and remembrances of spiritual lessons learned from working on the songs and chants of Swami Kriyananda and Paramhansa Yogananda.

Karen was born into a family of musicians and began musical instruction at the age of 4. She has been singing and playing Swami Kriyananda’s music for over 35 years. At his request, she managed tours and public performances and performed vocally and instrumentally in Italy with the Ananda Joy Singers. Karen has directed Ananda Palo Alto's vocal program since 2006, including choir, ensembles and soloists. Other cherished Ananda music endeavors include singing in Swami Kriyananda’s original plays and publishing the Ananda Songbook. Karen has also been delighted to participate in Chanticleer’s audition-only retreat for the past 5 seasons.

"There's something about singing Swami's music that radically changes our interior energy patterns and our consciousness."
