November 16, 2023

Swami Kriyananda reads and comments on his book Conversations with Yogananda. This TV series, A Way to Awakening, was recorded in India.

In this spiritual talk, Swami Kriyananda recounts stories about his guru to illustrate his powerful and truth-seeking nature. He tells of how his guru fearlessly confronted superficial socialites about the emptiness of their lives and how he declared that a health facility falsely claiming to cure cancer would be destroyed.

Kriyananda explains that when one is liberated, their past seven generations and future seven generations also receive blessings. He emphasizes key principles like unconditional divine love versus conditional human love, tuning into the wisdom-guided will to become freer, and overcoming doubts through self-honesty.

The Importance of Following One's Own Inner Wisdom

He advocates for daring to live by one's own higher understanding even if it means being different and not compromising truth to please society. He promotes finding inspiration not in the deluded world but in saints, scriptures, and one's own heart.

About Swami Kriyananda

In 1948 at the age of twenty-two, Swami Kriyananda (J. Donald Walters) became a disciple of the Indian yoga master, Paramhansa Yogananda. Yogananda is best known for his spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. Yogananda moved to America and developed the energization exercises and taught the meditation techniques of Hatha Yoga and especially Kriya Yoga.

At Yogananda’s request, Swami Kriyananda devoted his life to lecturing and writing, helping others to experience the living presence of God within. He taught on four continents in seven languages over the course of 65 years. His talks, his music, and his many books have touched the lives of millions.

An advocate of simple living and high thinking, Kriyananda's more than 150 books emphasize the need to live wisely by one’s own experience of life, and not by abstract theories or dogmas. A composer since 1964, he has written over 400 musical works. His music is inspiring, soothing, and uplifting.
