Fearing the Loss of a Dear One

Question

I am stricken with thoughts of losing my mother sometimes, and it really affects me. As a child, I used to worry about the same and used to pray for her and have always been very very connected to her, but lately the thought crops up and it seems all the more troubling now that she’s aging and now that I am an adult. I am a little terrified with the idea. I pray for her, I meditate on her good health and she’s been getting healthier lately, but how do I stop worrying and feeling scared?

Answer

Dear Nirja,

We recently had such a loss in our communities. We lost our dear friend and guide, Swami Kriyananda. We knew that he couldn’t live forever, but somehow it didn’t seem he would ever leave us. He did pass in April of this year and we were surprised actually even though we knew his body was failing him.

But we actually found that he is with us more and more each day in spirit. Please put aside your fears as you never lose anyone. They may not have their bodies in front of you, but their spirit is always with you and you can always be with them.
