Is Yoga Allowed in Christianity?

Question

Hey Ananda Villager, I’m schizophrenic (8 years suffering too much) and I am a christian. Do you know if the Lord allows Yoga in Christianity?

Answer

Dear Tyler,

You ask if the Lord allows yoga in Christianity. God most assuredly allows the practice of yoga and meditation for those of any religion though followers and authorities of various religions may not approve.

Yoga means Union with God. The true and timeless teachings of yoga assist the devotee (of any religion) in developing, with the grace of a God given guru, a deep relationship and ultimately union of consciousness with God. Christ is your God given guru. He taught yoga and meditation techniques to his disciples for all generations. One of His teachings is, “The Light of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” This teaching refers to the light seen in meditation when the eyes are uplifted to the point between the eyebrows.

As a Christian, you are a disciple of a true master, one who found and merged with God. Seek to attune your self with His consciousness. Consider learning and practicing yoga and meditation. Ananda is one reliable source for learning and practicing these teachings.

Schizophrenic or not, you are a child of God, and you have the opportunity to find and know Him.

May you feel the Lord’s grace on your efforts ever guiding you to your eternal home with Him.
