Two Questions About the State of Samadhi

Question

hello. I have two questions:

- while in meditation, when you concentrate deeply in the point between the eyebrows and finally see the spiritual eye and merge with it and feel this immense ecstasy or bliss.. is this state samadhi or superconsciousness?

- if you reach samadhi do you become free from reincarnating in the physical plane?

Answer

Dear Livehho,

You would probably very much enjoy reading Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda. The whole book is inspiring, and there is a beautiful description of Yogananda’s first experience of samadhi. This would give you a sense of the power and expansion of samadhi.

Seeing the spiritual eye and merging with it could be samadhi, but if you are writing of your own experience and are uncertain, i would say it is probably not samadhi. Samadhi means Oneness. In a state of samadhi, you lose all sense of your small self and experience yourself as all of creation. It is a gigantic experience, much more than feeling bliss.

Going into samadhi does not necessarily free you from reincarnating.

Blessings and joy,
