Can one attain salvation without attain Nirvikalpa samadhi ? Or attain Nirvikalpa samadhi is a must before attaining salvation ?
—Niraj, India
Dear Niraj,
Thank you for your question. I understand that when you get close to either state, you really don’t care, as you are one with God. In taking it from this point, realize that what we need to do is go deep into devotion and meditation so that whatever state God gives us, we take. What else matters?
You can read about these states from many books, and it may help you understand what you need to do to attain them. I personally think that they are the same as salvation is a western/Christian word for finding God and Nirvikulpa Samadhi is from the Indian beliefs. But do read the Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda to get a clear picture of both.
The important thing, though, is do what will help you attain oneness with God. Do your meditations daily, your puja, japa, whatever keeps you focused on the Divine. When totally focused you feel His joy and love.
Bless you, Seva
