A dream of performing miracles

Question

Greetings gurudev, Recently I had a dream in which I performed some miracles like the Masters. Is this a good sign of spiritual progress? I am not attached to miracles, but I would like to know how Yogananda able to exhibit undreamed-of proficiency in other fields? Did he use any technique. Kindly waiting for your reply.

Answer

Dear Pushkar,

Our dreams can be either subconscious dreams, made up of the memories or thoughts, which come to us as a part of daily life—these are more for our nightly “entertainment”—the other type of dreams are given to us from the super-consciousness (our Higher Selves) or God.

It is not always easy to know the difference between these two types of dreams. The best way to do this is to meditate deeply and pray for God and Gurus to reveal to you whatever it is you need to know or learn from this dream. At the close of your meditation, wait to see if you receive an answer. If not, keep asking. It will come, perhaps later, when you are least expecting it.

Remember that it is YOUR dream, no one else’s, and you alone are the best one to find out what it means, through prayer and meditation.

Paramhansa Yogananda carefully explains how he (or anyone) was/is able to perform miracles, in the chapter of Autobiography of a Yogi, called “The Law of Miracles.” Please read or re-read it to find the exact answers you are seeking.

Blessings and joy to you always!
