Energization Exercises

Question

Can I practice Transcendental meditation after doing Energization exercises of PY? Will it make my TM practice deeper?

—Rounak, India

Answer

Dear Nounak,

The Energization Exercises (EE) as given to us by Paramhansa Yogananda have been given freely to all, regardless of other spiritual practices or affiliations. Therefore there is no harm in practising them before your practice of TM Meditation. Will it make your meditation deeper? I should think so provided you go deep into the energy-and-will awakening aspects of Energization.

Yogananda envisioned the EE for everyone as a form of exercise that involved the conscious application of will power with awareness of energy and feeling. They require no equipment and can be done by virtually everyone, even if modified (for sitting, e.g.). Energy, or prana, is the underlying reality of matter and therefore of the body itself. It is the source of healing. Thus these powerful exercises are truly for everyone and will benefit not just one’s meditation but one’s life, attitude, and health.
