I just lost my father. Is it really a fact tht we can speak to the souls. I just want to ask him one thing and nothing materialistic . His death was a tragic one. How can I connect to him and speak ?

Dear Ankit,
I am sorry for your loss of your father. Yes it is possible to communicate with departed loved ones. However, it is not always so simple. Here are a few suggestions taken from the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda:
- Meditate daily with a calm but strong focus at the point between the eyebrows (Kutastha), or, spiritual ‘eye.’
- Meditate with devotion using pranayam or mantra as you have been taught by your guru. Do not focus on your intended attempt to ask your father your question. Instead offer your love and your Self to God, Divine Mother or guru with all your heart, mind, and soul.
- At the conclusion of your meditation, begin to broadcast from the spiritual eye strong thoughts of your intention to call your father to speak with you in order to ask your question. Do this by calmly visualizing your father (there must not be strong emotions of grief, worry, or attachment).
- While silently and with deep concentration broadcasting from the spiritual eye, keep open your heart for any response in feeling, vibration, or energy.
- Do this each day, morning and evening before bed, for at least five minutes.
- When retiring to sleep, mentally call to your father and welcome him to visit you in a dream and again mentally state your question.
Be prepared to do this for several months and even up to a year. If you receive no response you must be willing to accept that, too. Thus your effort must be made in non-attachment to the results and without grief or other intense emotion. Let your prayer come from love and gratitude, seeing life, your Self, and your Father all as manifestations of God playing the drama of creation.
In joy and peace,
Nayaswami Hriman
