Is It Lack of Accountability to Say that Mistakes I Make Are the Result of Karma?

Question

Isn’t it lack of accountability to say that the mistakes i make in this life are somewhere the result of my previous karma and that’s why i become a version of me i don’t believe to be myself anymore
In the past i have made mistakes
I have suffered due to guilt
But is it valid to accept that it was my previous karma which made my circumstances to be that way
Or was that my conscious choice ?

—Mansi, India

Answer

Dear Mansi,

The important thing in respect to mistakes and challenges is simply to accept responsibility for changing yourself for the better. Whether it is karma from past life or this life by way of a conscious choice, is far less important than “what is” the reality here and now. Consider this: what if your tests are not your karma but a test of faith? There are many stories of saints east and west who are tested by Divine Mother to strengthen their faith, their will power, their intuition to get back up and try again perhaps in a new way, with a positive attitude. We are tested to make us strong, not weak. It really doesn’t matter why or how so much as “What do I do about this?” Focusing on karma, “why,” only allows the mind to postpone positive action. So fear not; worry not; be a warrior who engages with the battle of life with skill, with energy, and high ideals. Be the best you can be in attunement with the Divine Will: for this we are born.
