Meditating on the Chakras

Question

For a few months I am doing meditation for about 30-40 minutes focusing on the 7 chakras. Is it a part of kriya yoga? It is alright to continue?

—A G Mohanan, India

Answer

Dear Friend,

Meditation on the chakras is an integral part of the more advanced techniques of Raja Yoga, which includes the kriya yoga family of techniques.

Are you in the process of preparing for kriya initiation?

In any case, chakra meditation is excellent and very helpful. I assume you have a qualified teacher? This is important.

Ananda represents and practices the raja and kriya yoga techniques taught by Paramhansa Yogananda (in the lineage that includes Lahiri Mahasaya of Benares).

Techniques without devotion and without attunement to one’s guru can only take one a certain distance on the path.

So please consider this subtler — but essential — aspect of meditation practices. Okay?

Blessings to you!
