Answer

Dear Lily,

I am not sure what is causing your visual experience when you are not meditating. Sometimes visual changes are associated with a physical problem. If there is any chance that this is the case you should have it checked out by a medical professional.

What you describe is not typical of visual experience associated with spiritual practice. If there is not a physical cause then it is time to ask what level of consciousness is associated with this vision for you. You mention that your mind is calm. Do you feel strongly uplifted during this time? Has the experience resulted in a significant, positive shift in your attitude toward life? Or is the experience associated with disturbed emotions or a darkening, heavy, lower consciousness? You have to honestly assess the quality of your experience.

Whether the visual experience is uplifting or not it is important not to cling to it or let yourself be defined by it. These experiences can come and go. If the experience is associated with lower consciousness just offer it up at the spiritual eye, the point between the eyebrows into the hands of the Divine. But if the experience is associated with an awareness of higher consciousness do tune into that. We are, at our core, spiritual beings and our destiny is to live in peace, joy, calmness and love. Any time we are reminded of this truth it is valuable.

Many blessings,
