What Does a Broken Light Bulb Mean?

Question

I have been going through a major transformation and have been more in tune with my spiritual path. I have had many synchronicity signs happening and today I come home to a light bulb busted on my floor. It is a light that is hardly used and was off during that time that I was gone. Could this be a message trying to come through? Any idea what this could mean?

Answer

Dear Angela,

Yes, if we have that conversation opened (if we are sensitive to it), the universe talks to us through events, which we can understand symbolically. Special events become messages. So what could that broken light bulb mean for you?

I’d see it this way: you have gone through an important transformation and are more in tune with your spiritual path. Well, then: the light bulb is the instrument, the current flowing through it is the Divine. The old (often unused) light bulb (instrument) broke. It wasn’t adapted anymore to the new Life flowing through it. So you need (or are already becoming) a new light bulb, meaning a new way of being an instrument.

So think of the ways in which now you can be a new and more fitting “light bulb”, after all your transformation. The old light bulb won’t do. Another but similar image was used by Jesus: “No man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.”

A new outer life might be waiting for you. You need and are the new light bulb. Think as Yogananda taught:

“I am the bulb and Thou art the light within it.
The truth and the miracle is this:
Thou art the bulb and the Light.”

All the best,
