Where To Focus Your Attention in Meditation

Question

I have not learnt meditation but currently doing it as per the instructions of a yoga teacher. Just to know where should be the focus when I meditate?

—RADHA, INDIA

Answer

Dear Radha,

Different meditation traditions may have different places to focus when meditating. In the foundation meditation technique called Hong-Sau that is taught by our guru, Paramhansa Yogananda, the focus is on the flow of breath when using the technique, and at the spiritual eye when letting go of technique and diving into the meditative peace and stillness awakened by use of the technique. There is a free Learn to Meditate Mini-Course on our website which you can access by clicking on this link. It has five brief lessons which I think you will find very helpful, going into detail about where to concentrate. Its instruction is much more complete than I can provide here in this brief answer.

It’s so wonderful that you seek to add meditation into your life. Meditation changes our lives for the better in numerous ways. Many blessings on your meditation efforts.
