Answer

Dear Lakshmi,

I am so very sorry for your heart-wrenching loss of your son. Please do not torture yourself with guilt over his passing. He was full grown and in charge of his own decisions. Please, also, do not punish yourself. It is understandable that you have lost interest in life, but please find some way to begin to live again. Find some form of service that helps to heal your heart. For when we help others we begin to heal ourselves.

The time of death may sometimes be predetermined, while at other times it may be a strong likelihood, yet there is some mutability to it. All of these things are due to karma, or cause and effect, in one way or another.

Please send your love to the soul of your son. It will help him now and he will feel your love.

Send your thoughts of love and goodwill to your loved ones as often as you feel inclined to do so, but at least once a year — perhaps on some special anniversary. Mentally tell them, “We will meet again sometime and continue to develop our divine love and friendship with one another.” If you send them your loving thoughts continuously now, someday you will surely meet them again. You will know that this life is not the end, but merely one link in the eternal chain of your relationship with your loved ones. Paramhansa Yogananda

Again, I am so very sorry for your loss. May Divine Mother soothe your aching heart. Please feel free to contact us to request healing prayers to help you through your time of grief.
