Spiritualizing activity

Question

What does it mean to spiritualize activities? How is this done? Often the activities are in the middle of a busy day when one can't meditate. Where can I find sources in Swamiji's writings on the subject? I have seen what happens when we don't. And I need to delve deeply into the subject. Thanks and blessings.

Answer

Dear MPG,

If you want to delve deeply into spiritualizing daily life, I think the most helpful book will be The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita, Explained by Paramhansa Yogananda, As Remembered by Swami Kriyananda. The Gita offers instructions in how to fight the “battle” of daily life, to stay centered and God-attuned.

Another helpful and important book is Awaken to Superconsciousness. When we talk of spiritualizing daily life, one way of looking at it is that we want to keep our minds attuned to the superconsciousness, and not be pulled down by resistances in the subconsciousness, or restlessness in the conscious mind.

We experience a taste of superconsciousness when we meditate – a feeling of calmness and positive, loving energy. We want to hold on to that uplifted energy as much as we can during daily activities.

One of the central aspects of superconsciousness is to greet everything that comes to you with a willing spirit, seeing it as God’s next lesson for your highest development.

Bless you in your exploration of this subject!

In divine friendship,

Anandi
