Are Divine Visions and the Soul Visible?

Question

Is divine sight visible? Is the soul visible?

—Sebok Provat Kumar Das, India

Answer

Dear Sebok,

“Can divine sights or the soul be seen” is the same as asking “Can God be seen,” as the soul is a part of God, like the wave of the ocean.

The answer is that none of them can be seen with human eyes. But with the inner sight, with our spiritual eye, yes, the soul, God, and all things divine can be seen.

This is why Krishna tells Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita (11:8): “You cannot behold Me with mortal eyes, however. Now, therefore, I give you divine sight.”

Yogananda too in his Autobiography of a Yogi, describes some of the divine sight: “[I saw] the divine dispersion of rays pour from an Eternal Source, blazing into galaxies, transfigured with ineffable auras. Again and again I saw the creative beams condense into constellations, then resolve into sheets of transparent flame. By rhythmic reversion, sextillion worlds passed into diaphanous luster; fire became firmament.”

So yes, God can be seen, our soul can be seen, divine visions can be seen. But to attain that inner sight we must meditate, and also become pure inside. Jesus Christ told us: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

All the best to your silent inner vision,
Jayadev
