Focus on the Spiritual Eye

Question

When I meditate and focus on the spiritual eye with my eyes closed, my eyes keep opening automatically and thus, my mediation is disturbed. It always happens when I am relaxed so is this maybe natural? Should I try meditating with my eyes open or should I "teach" my eyes to stay closed while focusing on the spiritual eye? Please help me and heaps of love to you.

Answer

Good question. Don’t try forcibly to bring your eyes to a focus on the spiritual eye, but gaze mentally at that point, and let the spiritual eye draw you into itself. Concentrate the attention first in the region of the medulla oblongata, and from that point to gaze toward the spiritual eye. Remember, Yogananda said, one mustn’t try too hard on the techniques but evolve in a relaxed way, naturally, gradually. Experiment with different ways to hold your eyes open or shut while meditating. Either way you mentioned about ‘holding’ your eyes could work. It is a question of what feels most right for you.

Here is a short visualization you can try to help you relax into focusing on the spiritual eye, whether your eyes are opened or shut: This visualization and others are in Awaken to Superconsciousness by J. Donald Walters. crystalclarity.org

Concentrate mentally, first, at the point between the eyebrows. Visualize there a tunnel of golden light. Feel yourself surrounded by a feeling of happiness and freedom. As you mentally move thru the tunnel feel yourself bathed in that light. Give yourself in body, mind, and soul as you surrender every thought, every feeling to absolute, Self existing bliss. Slowly the tunnel disappears into blue light. Lastly, visualize before you a silvery-white five pointed star. Let the bliss wash over you filling your heart with peace and joy.

Also, when you meditate, in the language of your heart ask God to guide and bless you. He will be with you. He will help you refine your techniques and bring you closer to realizing Him.

Love and Blessings on your efforts.
