The 3rd eye is the highest spiritual center, yes. It is our doorway to the Eternal. The heart however is our receiving set in the body. It is there where you feel the qualities of the atman, the soul. In other words, you concentrate on the spiritual eye to get closer to the soul or to God, you call it there. It is your “transmitting station.”
The receiving station, where you feel the cosmic love of your soul, its bliss, calmness, peace, where you receive guidance, where you even will perceive the omnipresence of your soul, is the heart center.
The soul doesn’t live in the heart, according to Yogananda. But the calm, open, receptive heart is its divine receiving set.
