This beautiful experience of seeing the third eye in this way sounds like a blessing for you during meditation. This is a special blessing, especially with the uplifted feeling that is accompanying the experience. The soothing calm, you describe, that comes with this confirms that it is a gift and may be taken inward, helping you go deeper in your focus and devotion. All experiences like this that may be of the imagination would not carry with it the sense of joy.
As your mediation becomes more relaxed and refined the spiritual eye will become more clear, steady, and pronounced. Swami Kriyananda describes the spiritual eye like this. “The spiritual eye is a reflection of the astral light in the medulla oblongata. The Christ or Krishna center, where it resides at the point between the eyebrows, represents the positive pole of the medulla which is the seat of ego-consciousness. When this light is beheld perfectly, it takes the form of a five-pointed star set in a field of deep blue or violet light and circled by a shining ring of gold.
