Should I Find a Normal Job?

Question

I am 54. Recently I started my spiritual journey, I think. I do not have a job at present. My mind hesitates to work in the outer world, even if it is for a living. This makes me confused. What path should I choose?

Answer

Dear Raju,

I would recommend that you pray to Divine Mother and ask for guidance. A very helpful prayer that Paramhansa Yogananda suggested is, “I will reason, I will will, I will act, but guide Thou my reason, will and activity to the right thing that I should do in everything.”

Hopefully you will be guided to that which is right for you. If you need to work in the outer world then take it as an opportunity to grow spiritually. Regardless of where you work be sure to have satsang with other devotees. In this way your spiritual magnetism will grow and you will attract more spiritual situations.

Take advantage of visiting places such as the Ananda Communities (in America, India and Italy) where you can experience first hand the reality of devotees “living in the world, but not of the world.” You might consider exploring the idea of moving to an Ananda Community.
