Why Was this World Formed?

Question

Why did God create human beings? In other words, why did all this birth-death cycle start, if God resides within us? Why was this world even formed?

Answer

Dear Priyanka,

It is indeed a mystery. We human beings have been created as humans against our will, in a condition in which we forget that God resides within us. The result is a lot of suffering. So why? Good question.

The best answer I can give, from Yoganandya’s teachings, is that God is like a great playwright. He created a huge drama, or a movie. In the midst of it there are most wonderful scenes and most horrible scenes, 50% and 50%.

However, the movie will have a fantastic ending, the “Happy End”, when the soul, you, realizes that it is divine, eternal, blissful, that everything was just a huge show. Nothing was as real as it seemed to be. It’s just a show of light and darkness, like when you go to the movies.

For us, still being caught in this movie, we can only do one thing: wake up from that dream-movie. How? By meditation, by realizing our true Self and our connection and oneness with the Creator, the great movie-director.

Once we wake up, we will say, with all the saints, “Well done, Lord! It was all worth it.”

But right now, in this world loaded with misery and pain, we can do nothing else but practice, go deep, pray, and reconnect inwardly and upwards.

God bless your awakening,
Jayadev
